Progress Blog #20

Hello wonderful people from the internet!

Welcome to the twentieth chapter of the more or less weekly Progress Blog!

Hello and happy new year. We have big plans for this year and want to take Enu and ENSO to the next level. To achieve this, we are currently applying for funding from MFG so that we can focus fully on Enu after graduating from university, where we are currently completing our bachelor’s degrees.

Our next big goal is to build a clean version by mid-April, as we will be exhibiting at the Baltic Games Fest. A smaller goal is mid-March, when we will have our internal university exhibition, which will also be our last. We will build a new version for this and working towards that goal.

What is the current state of play?

We took a short break over Christmas and New Year, so there haven’t been any new developments recently. To recap where we left off, we have now firmly established our art style, which is will be seen and reprenstented by the main character shown below. On the gameplay side, we reworked the base attack and fundamentally redesigned the combo system to make combat feel significantly smoother. We also implemented several quality-of-life features, such as collecting gears via input to not overload your inventory.

Overall, we are getting close to a first somewhat vertical slice. While the game is still far from clean and polished, many core elements are already in place. Enemies, an upcoming boss (planned within the next two weeks), a player ability, runes, base combos, upgrades, levels, traps, and the core rotation. With these systems coming together alongside the finalized aesthetic direction, the game is slowly taking the shape we have been aiming for over a long time.

What we will do this week?

We are very sorry that we will not be able to return with exciting game-related tasks until next week. However, we want to contribute to transparency with our blogs, and the truth about a studio and game production is that we have to spend most of this week working on the funding application. Exciting! but part of the Indie Developement.
