Welcome to our last Member Highlight (for now)! Today, we’re excited to introduce David, our Technical Artist and the mastermind behind the tools that keep our development running smoothly. When he’s not coding or solving complex problems, you’ll find him on the football pitch, diving into his favorite games, or cracking everyone up with his spontaneous humor!
Q: What’s your background, and how did you find your way into making games?
A: Like many of you out there, I’ve always loved playing video games with friends, whether online or via LAN parties. There is something special about seeing how games can bring people together, make them laugh and create memories to look back on. Eventually, I started wondering: How is all this even possible? How can you bring the worlds you dream up in your head to life?
I always knew I wanted to do something in IT, but when I stumbled across a Game Development degree while researching, I thought, Why not give it a shot? Fast forward a few years, and here I am in the games industry, loving every minute of working in such a creative space. A big reason for that is the amazing team I am working with.
Q: If you are not developing games, what else are you doing?
A: When I’m not busy coding, debugging, or brainstorming, you’ll probably find me playing video games (because, you know, market research). But I also believe in balance, so I make time for sports like football, swimming, and strength training. It’s all about keeping the body as active as the mind – plus, it helps me step away from the screen for a bit, which is critical when I start seeing code in my dreams.
Q: What’s a fact about you that everyone knows?
A: Sometimes I just need a quick five-minute break to sin or jump around in the office like it turned into a nightclub. Trust me, after hours of intense coding, there’s no better way to blow off steam. It’s like debugging…but for your soul.
Q: What’s your favorite aspect of your work?
A: The creative freedom and power to bring entire worlds to life with code is something I’ll never get over. There’s a special kind of magic in writing a few lines of code and seeing them transform into something visually stunning. But what truly brings me joy isn’t just the game logic – it’s building the tools that empower my teammates. I love designing systems and workflows that make it easier for my team to create and bring their ideas to life. There’s nothing more satisfying than watching them use a tool I’ve built and seeing it unlock their creativity or streamline their process. It’s like being the backstage crew at a concert – you’re not on stage, but you’re making the show happen, and that feels incredible.
Q: What qualities define you in your role?
A: : I’d say my ability to quickly understand new systems and my eagerness to learn are my biggest strengths. I can dive into a new tool, pipeline, or tech stack, figure it out, and explain it to the rest of the team. I’m also always open to experimenting with or improving tools and workflows, making me pretty adaptable – which is key in this ever-changing industry.
Q: What’s been your favorite moment so far?
A: Watching a simple group project evolve into a full-fledged team has been nothing short of amazing. Seeing how we’ve built trust, developed a shared vision, and grown into a team that works harmoniously is something I’m incredibly proud of. Together, we’re ambitious, driven, and determined to make our mark on the gaming world by creating something truly unique.
Q: How do you split up work in the team, and what do you enjoy most about it?
A: Since we’re a small team, everyone has to wear multiple hats. Alongside our main roles, we all take on additional tasks like social media, management, or even finances.
This kind of flexibility is something I genuinely enjoy. Sometimes it’s refreshing to step away from the (occasionally frustrating) life of a programmer and clear my head with other responsibilities. It keeps things interesting and ensures no two days are ever the same.
